What Are Dental Implants?
If you've lost a tooth due to injury, decay, or gum disease, or if you're struggling with loose dentures or uncomfortable bridges, dental implants may be a great option for you. Dental implants are permanent, natural-looking tooth replacements designed to restore the function and appearance of missing teeth. At Mobile Oral and Facial Surgery, Dr. Christopher Mullenix and Dr. Aaron Wallender provide dental implants that act as artificial tooth roots to support crowns, bridges, or dentures. Dental implants not only help preserve jawbone health and maintain facial structure, but they also provide a secure, long-term solution that can dramatically improve your ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. What Is the Dental Implant Treatment Process?
The dental implant treatment process at Mobile Oral and Facial Surgery in Mobile, AL, involves a series of carefully planned steps to ensure optimal results. One of our skilled dental surgeons will begin with a comprehensive consultation, including digital X-rays or 3D imaging, to evaluate your jawbone health and determine if an implant is the right option. If the tooth is still present, it will be extracted. In some cases, a bone graft may be placed to strengthen the jawbone, especially if there has been bone loss. Once the area is ready, the surgeon will surgically insert a small titanium post into the jawbone under local anesthesia or sedation. This post serves as the new tooth root and will need several months to fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration. After healing, a small connector piece called an abutment is attached to the implant, and finally, a custom crown is secured on top, completing the restoration. The result is a durable, natural-looking replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions like a real one.
What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
Dental implants offer a wide range of benefits that make them one of the most reliable and effective solutions for replacing missing teeth, including:
- Look, feel, and function like natural teeth
- Help preserve jawbone and prevent bone loss
- Improve chewing and speaking abilities
- Provide long-term durability with proper care
- Eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures
- Prevent surrounding teeth from shifting
- Enhance facial structure and overall smile aesthetics

Dr Mullinax and his staff are Top Notch!! My wife used them for Dental Implants also! Wonderful Experience!! I highly recommend them!!!
Years ago I became acquainted wwith dr. Mullinix with what I considered a lot of dental work. This included implants. Recently I broke a front tooth that needs removal so once again I chose Dr. mullinix. His operation is still in the same location and it felt the same as I encountered new staff. In a week i have the serious business performed. I know all will be well in his experienced hands. And my smile will be restored, good as new.
I had a great experience with Mobile Oral and facial surgery. They got me right in and was able to take care of my issues in a timely manner. I would highly recommend them to anyone for implants or extractions.
