Wisdom tooth removal is a common oral surgery procedure performed to extract one or more of the third molars — also known as wisdom teeth — that often cause problems such as pain, crowding, or infection when they emerge improperly. At Mobile Oral and Facial Surgery, board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons Dr. Christopher Mullenix and Dr. Aaron Wallender offer safe, efficient wisdom tooth extractions using advanced techniques and sedation options to ensure a comfortable experience. How Are Wisdom Teeth Removed?
Wisdom teeth are typically removed through a minor surgical procedure performed by one of our oral surgeons, often under some form of sedation for comfort. The process begins with a consultation and imaging, followed by the procedure itself, which usually takes about 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the number and position of the teeth. During the surgery, a small incision may be made in the gum to access impacted teeth, and the teeth might be sectioned for easier removal. After removal, stitches may be placed, and patients are given detailed aftercare instructions to support healing and manage discomfort.
Wisdom Tooth Extractions Reviews
First time patient. Dr. Mullenix scheduled me quickly for tooth extraction. Everything went very smoothly and professional. He discussed the procedure and answered all my questions.
Dr Mullinex and staff were awesome. I was in and out for my tooth extraction. I was very impressed with a follow up phone call from him that evening to check on how I was doing.

It was worth every dollar!!! Vist & schedule w him FOR SURE !!
Best tooth extraction nap I've ever experienced. Everyone is nice, process was easy and literally painless. Great chairside manner. They have a really professional team that is fully transparent if you are having to pay cash. Only photo I have to share is my broken tooth graphic that helped keep my spirits up before the procedure. Hopefully I won't need another extraction for a while but if I do I'll know where to go. Thank you!
My son is using Dr. Mullinex to remove his wisdom teeth. The office is an amazing environment and the staff was very kind and helpful. We left the office with very clear understanding of our insurance coverage and expectations for the upcoming procedure. Excellent experience!!!

Am I A Candidate For Wisdom Tooth Extraction?
Candidates for wisdom tooth removal are typically individuals whose third molars are causing or have the potential to cause oral health problems. This includes patients with impacted wisdom teeth, which are teeth that do not have enough room to emerge properly and become trapped in the jawbone or gums. Others who may need an extraction are those experiencing pain, swelling, or infection in the back of their mouths. Additionally, if wisdom teeth are causing crowding or damage to adjacent teeth, removal is often recommended. A consultation with Dr. Mullenix or Dr. Wallender, including X-rays, will help determine if you are a candidate and if extraction is the best course of action to protect your long-term oral health.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have all four wisdom teeth removed at the same time?
Yes, most patients with all their wisdom teeth choose to have all four removed in one visit to avoid multiple recoveries. This approach is often more efficient and can simplify healing. Our team will assess your oral health and imaging to determine whether removing all four at once is appropriate for you.
Is there a minimum age requirement for wisdom teeth removal?
There is no strict age requirement, but many teens benefit from removal between ages 15 and 19, when the roots are not fully developed. Earlier removal can reduce the risk of complications such as impaction or crowding. Our team will recommend timing based on your teen’s dental development and comfort.
How do I help my teen who is nervous about wisdom tooth removal?
Reassurance, clear expectations, and understanding the sedation options available can go a long way in easing anxiety. Encourage your teen to ask questions so they feel informed and prepared. Our team will walk both of you through every step, helping the experience feel more manageable.
